Adirondack Central School District Occupational Education Department
The Adirondack Technology Education and Agriculture programs joined forces in a co-curricular community giveback project. Mrs. Heather Sweeney applied for and received the Pratt-Northam Youth Advisory Council (YAC) grant funding a community and/or school project that would benefit the children in our school and community. The purpose of the grant was to expand the Boonville Village Flower Bench Program. Approximately 4 years ago, the ACS Agriculture and Technology Education programs partnered with the village to construct and put in place 3 flower benches distributed around the village during the summer months. Since then, each spring, students in the Agriculture Science class at ACSD start flowers from seeds that get transplanted into the flower boxes before being placed, along with the benches, at different locations along Main Street. These 3 flower benches have proven to be a very positive addition to the charm and beauty along Main Street in the Village of Boonville.
Adirondack FFA and Agriculture & Technology Programs joined forces to construct and implement three additional planter benches to be placed within the village for community residents and visitors to enjoy. Several students in Mr. Dan Granato’s dual credit MVCC Carpentry class were given the task of designing and constructing the three benches and planters, but three seniors spearheaded the project. Aiden Korte, Tyler Seelman, and Dawson Cabic took much pride in the construction process and they worked diligently everyday for a couple weeks until they were finished. Their hardwork and dedication can be seen when sitting or admiring their work throughout Main Street in Boonville. During the weeks these three students were building the benches and planters, the Ag. Science class was filling the inserts with potting soil and planting flowers. The Village of Boonville DPW came to the school, picked up and transported these joint projects to their current strategic locations throughout the village.
