The Adirondack Central School RoboCats had a standout performance at the Mohawk Valley
Utica Qualifier for the FIRST Tech Challenge on Sunday, January 12. Competing against some
of the best teams in the region, the RoboCats showcased their skill, teamwork, and
determination throughout the event.

In the qualification rounds, the RoboCats won four of their five matches, a remarkable
achievement that secured them a fourth-place ranking heading into the playoff round. The top
six teams advanced to the double-elimination playoff tournament, each vying for the event
championship and a coveted spot at the FTC Regionals in March.

The RoboCats fought hard in the playoffs, making it all the way to the semifinals of the lower
bracket. Their journey ended with a close loss to the second-ranked team, narrowly missing out
on a chance to advance to the next stage of the competition. Despite the setback, the team left
the qualifier with heads held high, proud of their progress and excited for what lies ahead.

The RoboCats team includes Clayton Christiansen, Donald Keene, Travis Mourer, Devin
Kilgallen, Jadyn Fox, Dominic Reppard, and Austion Sierson. This dedicated group of students
has worked tirelessly to improve their robot and their strategy, demonstrating impressive growth
and collaboration throughout the season.

This is only the second year the RoboCats have been competing in the FIRST Tech Challenge,
and the strides they have made in that short time are impressive. The team continues to grow,
learn, and improve with each competition, proving that they are a force to be reckoned with in
the world of robotics.

The ACS STEAM program would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the Adirondack Central
School administration and Board of Education for their unwavering support of the robotics team.
Special recognition is also due to Liz Vaerewyck, the coach of the South Lewis robotics team,
for her ongoing mentorship and support. Her guidance has been invaluable in helping the
RoboCats reach new heights.

The RoboCats aren’t done yet. They have one more opportunity to qualify for the FTC
Regionals when they compete at the Perth-Broadalbin qualifier on January 26. With their
dedication and drive, the team is ready to give it their all and make their community proud once
again.
